Didier Robin : We offer them high-value-added services that free them from having to deal with the non-medical activities essential to their smooth operation. Built around our core traditional business, the supply of energy (heat, refrigeration and power) and the maintenance of energy systems, our services have now been expanded to include managing medical equipment, fluids and gas, and providing the support functions required for quality care, patient comfort and suitable employee working conditions.
A Solid Lead, Benefiting Our Clients
To meet environmental, cost and care quality goals, Dalkia designs inventive energy solutions.
Interview with Didier Robin, Vice President, Health Care Sector, Dalkia
Over 5,500 hospitals and health care facilities around the world contract with Dalkia. What do you do for them ?
Which support functions does Dalkia take care of ?
D.R. : We handle all care-related logistics (laundry, records, etc.), green space management, security and so on.
Our subsidiary Sterience is also developing a business involving the sterilization of surgical instruments, at its five centers in France or on-site at the medical facilities.
How do you work with the hospital sector in France ?
D.R. : We act as real partners of hospitals that share our goals—to improve the quality of care. We therefore communicate constantly with hospital staff so that we can thoroughly understand their expectations, design and deploy solutions tailored to changing needs and jointly define good management practices. Our horizons are medium and long term and we work under results-based contracts with an average term of eight years. Our partnerships include a hospital employee loan option and will likely evolve over time. We could host and train hospital personnel at Campus Veolia Environnement, on a voluntary basis and depending on the contract's length. It's an important human resources issue.
What are your main strengths ?
D.R. : While continually broadening our services, we offer a very complete range that is tailored to local needs and can boast solid references. Recall the first contract Dalkia signed was in 1937, with a hospital that has renewed its agreements with us ever since! Today we work in 40 countries in Europe, America and Asia, where for example we manage almost all the hospitals in Seoul, South Korea. We also work under public-private partnerships in France, Italy, Portugal and Mexico, some of which are very broad in scope.
In addition, we know how to manage complex services and devise innovative solutions, such as the use of renewable energies and biomass—where we have a considerable lead—in order to reduce carbon emissions, smart energy management to sell surplus power to the grid and earn green certificates, and building adaptations to optimize energy efficiency and meet our contract performance obligations. Our professionalism gives us a lead over our competitors and we're striving to maintain it and to ensure that our clients reap the benefits.
