Challenge

The City of Venice pays plenty of attention to the environment and the quality of life of its citizens. The city especially seeks to control energy management related costs for municipal buildings, which represent 40% of its energy consumption.
Via a Consip public-private partnership signed in 2003 for five years, Venice granted Veolia Energy-Dalkia an energy supply contract.

In 2006, and for three years,Veolia Energy-Dalkia also took over the operation and maintenance of 240 energy facilities with a power of less than 35 kW (air-conditioning, cogeneration, electric generator units, photocell systems).
The contract also covers general services like fire protection, elevators and anti-intruder systems.

Objectives

  • Reducing the environmental impact of the facilities;
  • Managing costs over a multiyear horizon;
  • Optimizing the energy management of the buildings in Mestre, in the historical center and on the islands.
