Solutions for the environment

Providing energy while facing environmental problems is a global challenge. Dalkia is developing know how and state-of-the-art technologies to achieve this end and to provide efficient solutions adapted to every need for all its customers.

Several examples illustrate how Dalkia provides a daily solution to the energy and environmental challenge.

Take action on all components

Fluctuations in the price of fossil fuels, particularly oil and gas, and their rarefaction, make new solutions necessary. Dalkia is an integrator of energy solutions for the environment by acting on several factors such as the introduction of alternate and renewable energies, optimization of need management and changes to consumer behavior. For town councils, these solutions are effectively deployed through community services; firstly district heating and cooling networks, but also decentralized energy production and energy management in municipal buildings.

The industrial sector has been historically dependent on fossil fuels and is particularly concerned by the question of polluting emissions, and is now also confronted with increasingly strict legal and environmental constraints. In this field, Dalkia offers high performance technical improvements to give better energy efficiency for the supply of utilities (electricity, hot water, steam, compressed air, etc.), but also services to achieve optimized control of installations. Combining all of these services reduces energy consumption, achieving a twofold economic and environmental benefit.

Energy efficiency consists of producing better and consuming less:
In the early stages of a project, Dalkia offers its know how and experience in the design and modernization of installations, thus setting up the conditions necessary for optimized control and limiting energy consumptions and polluting emissions such as CO2.
At a later stage, comprehensive building management is based on a set of tools and methods capable of reducing consumption and combating losses, both on production sites and in buildings (housing, tertiary activities, buildings and public infrastructures).

A new energy mix

Dalkia and renewable energy

Renewable energies are at the heart of efforts made by Dalkia because they provide a means of managing without fossil fuels, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions at the same time.
Biomass is one important line of development, and Dalkia, an important player in the exploitation of energy from wood in France and Europe, has won several technological and commercial successes with its public and private customers in this field over the last few years. Dalkia's energy offers also include photovoltaic and thermal solar energy, biogas and geothermal energy.

Networks and cogeneration to combine energy and environment efficiency

Dalkia is expert in heat networks used in downtown areas to significantly reduce greenhouse effect gas emissions. Heat networks replace individual installations that are less energy efficient and more polluting.
Collective networks also make it possible to substitute significant quantities of renewable energies such as biomass and geothermal energy, the exploitation of unavoidable energy derived from waste incineration, for fossil fuels.
Dalkia's experience is unequalled in France and in other countries, and offers all its services from design to operation including the modernization of existing networks, for the benefit of its customers.

Cogeneration is another technology in which Dalkia is a major player.
It simultaneously generates heat and electricity in a single installation. By combining energy efficiency and lower consumptions of fossil fuels, cogeneration systems generate electricity locally and satisfy heating needs. Finally, they have the advantage of being able to develop renewable energies, particularly biomass.

Reduction of emissions

Limiting the environmental impact is more than simply reducing emissions from fossil fuels. It also means implementing a rigorous policy against all sorts of releases on every site, including CO2, but also emissions of SOx and NOx, dust and pollutants...
Dalkia's Research workers and Development department apply all their skills to boost this effort to develop and improve technologies and significantly reduce the environmental impact of our customers' installations.
The results achieved are impressive and levels reached are often considerably better than required by standards in force.
